Hot Water Unreliable
Radiators Are Cold

Radiators are cold because they contain dirty water and are clogged up with corrosion debris (sludge). In this state the heating system burns a lot more fuel as it struggles to heat the home.

Boiler Cuts Out or Bangs

Boilers make loud banging noises called "kettling" because corrosion debris (sludge) blocks and damages the heat exchanger. Blockages reduce circulation causing boilers to overheat and cut out.

Radiator Pipes Are Blocked

If radiators are stone cold then corrosion debris (sludge) maybe blocking radiator pipes and the sooner the system is power flushed the better before blockages become permanent and need to be cut out.

Hot Water Unreliable

Hot water fluctuates hot and cold due to corrosion debris ( sludge) in the combi boiler domestic heat exchanger. Flow reduce to a trickle due to limescale. If the problem is left too long the domestic heat exchanger may need to be replaced.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Does a Power Flush Work?
An engineer will connect a pump to your central heating system—at the pump head for combi boilers or the circulation pump for system boilers. The pump circulates chemicals to remove sludge, rust, limescale, and prevent future corrosion. Contaminated water and debris will be disposed of. Tools may be used to clear radiator blockages, and temperatures will be measured before and after the Power flush to show improvements. The process takes 6-10 hours, depending on the system's age, number of radiators, and sludge severity. Most jobs are completed in a day, though severe cases may take longer. A qualified engineer will handle repairs, replacements, and the Power flush.
How Much Does a Power Flush Cost?
There are lots of factors that will affect the price of a Power flush such as size and complexity of the heating system, not to mention any incidental troubleshooting that crops up. A Power flush can cost anything between £300 to £1000+ but will also vary from engineer to engineer. Sometimes there will be additional costs like extra descaler chemicals or replacing the TRVs.
Is a Power Flush Always the Solution?
In some particularly severe cases you may find that it’s actually more cost effective to replace the system than carry out a Power flush. A Power flush will not fix broken parts. If a blockage has caused a part to break that will add time and cost to the job to get the system back to optimum performance. A professional will be able to advise you if this is the case.
